Proposed Workshops: Hands-On Art

Screen Print Throw Down - Learn easy ways to incorporate screen print into your paper and fabric creations. From calling cards to napkins experience the fun of screen printing your own designs. How about your own logo or signature finish on gift tags for the holidays.  

 Printmaking without a Press - Learn how to work with Gelatin to create your own prints without purchasing a premade gelatin plate. Explore painterly monoprint techniques that provide beautiful end results without a press. Explore printing on paper as well as fabric. Gain knowledge of materials, supplies, tools and expand your vocabulary.

Inspirations from Nature for Cyanotype - Who wouldn't want a beautiful silk scarf of blue with designs from collected nature items? This workshop explores the cyanotype and sun-print process with paper and fabric. Cyanotype is a photographic process using a solution of iron compounds with objects or photo negatives placed on the material to make a print. The cyanotype is printed using UV light, such as the sun, a light box or a UV lamp. The process was introduced by Sir John Herschel, an experimental photographer, chemist, inventor, astronomer and mathematician in 1842.   

Adventures with Natural Dyes - Rust, marrow, cochineal, indigo to name a few will be on hand to enhance the learning and dyeing process as participants learn new ways and expand skills with natural dyes. History of dye use, ways to create beautiful fabric designs incorporating traditional and experimental techniques will be covered.
